Music Theory-SoundSquares is a "mobileeartraining gaming environment" designed forthebeginner-to-intermediate musician. Created by the developersofScaleNet, this app is designed for learning to generateprimarychords from melodic lines.Using a stacking strategy similar to Tetris, note-blocks fallinrhythm. The player assembles the blocks to create3-notechords--both vertically and horizontally.The notes and chords are integrated into a constantlyshiftingbacking track. This track allows the player to developchordconstruction, and chord identification skills in a reallifecontext, but also to experiment with improvisation, andmusicaltiming.Music Theory-SoundSquares can be used as an ear training,orchord identification tool in the classroom environment, as wellasindividually.Based on popular and world music models, and employingstrategiessimilar to Tetris, the player is introduced to familiarandunfamiliar music, and is invited to find connections betweenthetwo.SoundSquares provides an interactive learning spaceassociatedwith traditional Roman Numeral triad-driven chordprogressions suchas:I-IV, I-V, I-IV-V,Other progressions include partial non-dominant 7th chords,andinverted, partia dominant 7ths.Perfect for enhancing a traditional ear-trainingeducation,SoundSquares comes pre-loaded with two very differentmusicalstyles: ROCK, which references "Mellow", "Metal" and"Dubstep"musical styles, and AFRICAN, which references bothnorthern andsouthern East African musical styles.The game is designed for downloadable content and socialmediaintegration which will become accessible over the next fewmonths.These DLC musical modules will include Chiptune, VintageGame,Blues, Hip-Hop, and VaporWave musical styles.
